Rural Health Promotion Training Program

For the first time, in May 2012, 40 community members gathered on the Rural Health and Education Campus of Bandawa, Sierra Leone for a 12-day workshop at the local health clinic. Participants trained under professionals from nearby Njala University and Zion Ministries’ healthcare clinicians to build their own capacity to promote health information within their communities; the training emphasized basic public health for rural community settings, such as sanitation, water, maternal and infant health, and hygiene. Throughout the training course, budding health promoters collaborated and learned together, with the aim to ensure a spiritually, socially, mentally and physically well-balanced life for those in their remote rural communities.

After 12 successful days, all participants graduated from the course and took their new knowledge back into their villages to uplift community health, train and educate others, and serve as liaisons to connect villagers in need with a referral network of local health services. YOU can support this effort for training, outreach, and health promotion by empowering more local leaders to take control of their own health, and the health of their communities.  Sponsor a health promotion workshop to ensure that health training opportunities to educate and uplift entire communities persist for years to come in rural areas of Sierra Leone.
