Healthcare for Today, Tomorrow, and a Lifetime

The community of Fonfrede, Les Cayes is a remote rural area in the south of Haiti. In a nation mired in poverty and the threat of natural disaster, healthcare is expensive and inaccessible. Basic needs such as sanitation, education, literacy and hygiene are often left unmet. With this, preventable and treatable health issues persist – such illnesses as malnutrition, malaria, TB, cholera, and more.

In 2001, Forward in Health sent a medical mission of visiting clinicians to serve the local community area by providing free primary and preventative health services. In the wake of several additional medical missions, the formal incorporation of Forward in Health was finalized in 2006 with the dream and drive to construct a permanent health clinic to consistently serve the community of Fonfrede and the greater Les Cayes area.

Clinic construction is underway, and the facility will open its doors to the local community in 2013. However, much work remains undone in bringing the dream of healthcare for today, tomorrow, and a lifetime to fruition for the local Haitian population. Forward in Health and SHGO have partnered with the community of Fonfrede and need YOUR urgent support to extend healthcare as a human right to thousands of Haitians in need.
